NCoE HELGA: Nordic Health – Wholegrain Food (2007-2011)

Focus will be on holistic research evaluating nutritional aspects of whole grain foods and the role of biomarkers will be the primary scientific interest.

Coordinated by Anne Tjønneland at the Danish Cancer Society, Denmark.

In the proposed study three classes of biomarkers will be evaluated:

  • Biomarkers of intake (alkylresorcinols and aventhramides)
  • Biomarkers of expected disease preventive substances (enterolactone, enterodiol and alkylresorcinols)
  • Biomarkers of substances with expected negative effects (acrylamide, cadmium and mycotoxins).

The research will be based on clinical intervention studies and cohort based epidemiological studies of disease occurrence and prognosis.
